The Jayhawk Welcome Center is a new 30,000-square-foot facility open for campus tours by prospective students and their families. The $29.4 million project features multiple interactive exhibits developed by Dimensional Innovations. One exhibit, the Jayhawk Experience, features front and back fifteen foot displays and a slate of 30+ immersive video and 360 degree content that highlights life at KU. It’s an impressive greeting for prospective students and a big reason for KU’s largest freshman class. Ever.

A huge project like this involves many different parts of the organization, and I lead the strategic development and content decisions for KU Marketing. In that role, I oversaw the creation of over 50 pieces of unique video content curated to match students’ interests. Content covered a range of subjects and formats from a green screen photo booth, to the 360 Jayhawk Experience, and the massive 30 foot lobby display.

Each of these digital activations was strategically developed to aid in KU’s student recruitment efforts by highlighting different aspects of the student experience, from sitting courtside at Allen Fieldhouse, to studying abroad, to KU researchers digging up T-Rex bones in Hell Creek, Montana. Prospective student tours are now utilizing the building, but it’s open to the public as well, so make sure to stop by and see it next time you’re in Lawrence.
